Swan (C/2006 M4)

Comet Swan C/2006 M4, is a non-periodic comet discovered in late June of 2006. Although the comets perihelion was on September 28, 2006 its brightness increased dramatically from magnitude 7 to magnitude 4 on October 24, 2006 becoming visible with the naked eye. The orbit of Comet SWAN is hyperbolic (eccentricity larger than 1) during its passage through the inner solar system. After leaving the influence of the planets, the eccentricity will drop below 1 and it will remain bound to the solar system as an Oort cloud comet.

November 2nd 2006 : The comet looks like a magnitude 5 star in Hercules not far from galactic starcluster M13. Telescopes reveal a fuzzy coma around the dusty core. The comets apparent speed is appr. 5 acr minutes per hour.
